Protector stall mats were not the very first, but to this day they are still the professionals’ choice for comfort, safety and durability. Three fourths of America’s veterinary teaching universities and hundreds of leading vet clinics rely on Protector mats. Not all mats are the same. Just because they are black, and typically 4’ x 6’ and weigh 100 lbs., that is where similarities end. Many mats sold are actually conveyor belts passed off as horse mats. Several manufacturers bind the rubber in their stall mats with urethane glue rather than fully revulcanizing them. This leads to shorter wear life and absorption of urine creating odors.

Unlike Protector mats with their aerobic grooved bottom, many are sold that are flat on the bottom. A grooved or footed bottom is what gives the resiliency essential for safe traction and to channel any trapped liquids. And many mats do not have Protector’s bi-directional safety pattern on top for better traction.

Did you know that a good percentage of stall mats sold contain wood or organic filler material, particularly mats made in Pacific rim countries? And we now know that an increasing number of stall mats are of 2nd quality and passed off as 1st quality. That is why you must get a warranty in writing and it must be the manufacturer’s warranty, not the dealer’s unless the dealer has been in business for as long as the warranty they offer.

You can always find a lower quality, lower priced stall mat. But for very little cost difference you can have the peace of mind in owning Protector mats or Protector Lok mats. Insist on Protector brand mats.
